Well I started tafe again recently and one of my internet activities I had to complete was to make this blog.
I'm starting to feel like an old man, since when I first learned about the web, protocols were used differently, or for that matter protocols were actually used. Yes I speak of the merry old days of 1996.
In class they say "back on the web 1.0 there was no way of communicating like we do today on facebook! people can talk about anything and post pictures! many people can be logged into the same site and collaboratively talk about topics!" Then I thought about the before time of the 90s. Look sure now the Internets faster, that had to happen, but with respect back then we had other things that the facebook twittering youtubers of today have long forgotten. Things called Newsgroups, Internet Relay Chats, Bulletin Board Systems and muds on Telnet. Oh yeah we also had server-side scripting and web automation, so we could do html forms and perl scripts. We had CGI (not this new whizzbang php thing)!
All that said; php, flash, html5 and ajax are about a BILLION times better than the old ways of doing things. I just want to remind everyone that server side scripting was not invented overnight, it simply evolved and grew ;)
