Lapping CPUs

Recently I have gotten into "lapping" my cpus and heatsinks to attain better overclocks and lower temps.

Lapping is basically taking your processor to a flat piece of sandpaper taped to glass and very carefully sanding back the metal to reduce the distance in between the core and the thermal pipes in the heatsink.  An added advantage is that since lapping makes both surfaces a lot less bumpy, you need less thermal compound in between the core and the heatsink.

Probably the most staisfying part of this process is by the time you have stripped away all that chromed crap they put on the outside of heatsinks and the layer on the cpu, all you are left with is copper on copper.

as you can see once you have cut back the chrome layer and buffed the copper until its totally flat theres less layers for the heat to have to travel through, and makes it conduct heat more efficiently

PS don't forget to use arctic silver 5!
